Dr. Mike Funk, Superintendent of Stillwater Area Public Schools will share updates about the schools with an overview of the proposed referendum. Stillwater Area Public Schools will be asking voters this fall to consider a bond referendum to replace two elementary schools, add on to Oak-Land Middle School and make security improvements to schools across the district. Q&A from audience.
Mike Funk has been the Superintendent of Stillwater Area Public Schools since 2022.
He has been a superintendent since 2005, most recently serving as the Superintendent in Albert Lea from 2009-22. Prior to becoming a superintendent, he was a high school social studies teacher, coach, activities director, and principal.
Mike is also a Retired Army Colonel from the Minnesota National Guard with 30 years of service. As a career infantry officer, he commanded soldiers at the platoon, company, battalion, and regimental level.
He deployed twice to the Balkans in the early 2000s. Mike has a strong academic background in strategic operations, with a Doctorate in Educational Policy from the University of Minnesota, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from The United States Army War College. Funk was Named the Minnesota Superintendent of the Year in 2022, by the Minnesota Association of School Administrators.
