November 2018. Lake Elmo, MN. The Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce celebrated 80 years in business for Hagberg’s Country Market with a ribbon cutting celebration on November 1st, 2018. New members with the Chamber, the visit to their quaint grocery store brought along a new-found network of friends to the historic Market including, Chamber Ambassadors, board members and staff, city officials, neighbors and long-time customers of the store, along with the Hagberg family.

Hagberg’s Country Market is a third-generation meat market and butcher shop located in Lake Elmo since 1938. Billy and Melissa Hagberg now operate the store that Billy’s grandparents, Ray and Olga, purchased nearly a century ago. In 1972, Billy’s parents, Bill and Pat moved the store from Main Street in Lake Elmo to its current location on bustling Highway 5. Nestled along-side a farmer’s field, it’s a fitting location for the fresh meats and produce that has made Hagberg’s a community main stay. Billy explained his role in the store by finding it to be a care-taker position of sorts as the generations before forged a loyal clientele and established the business that has grown as a landmark in the community. It is not without their continued hard work and investment to keep today’s generations active with the small-town family market. They have recently renovated and updated their space and partnered with local businesses to add finishes and product.

Entering Hagberg’s, you are greeted with a friendly smile, warm atmosphere and a service that speaks for itself and nods to a time of the past. A time where folks gathered and greeted each other with sincerity and a genuine pause, taking the time to ask about your day or offer a heartfelt hello. A place where you approach the deli counter for your regular and the butcher remembers you from yesterday or last week.  The core values of a simpler era and a family-run business are all around Hagberg’s.

This family-owned market offers exceptional quality and an unrivaled selection of distinctive and expertly prepared meats. Hagberg’s is the area’s most robust meat counter with variety and service unmatched.  Hagberg’s also features a specialty deli, a delectable bakery, and a market brimming with grocery items for your everyday and special occasion meal prep. They consider no competition when it comes to a big-box store counter-parts, placing an emphasis on quality of service at their place of business. The local staff knows how to make customers feel at home, just as they should in a hometown meat market. There may be other butcher shops around, but none of them have been in the community as long as Hagberg’s, and none of them offer the knowledge and passion that three generations of local meatatarians bring to the table. Hagberg’s reputation extends beyond the confines of Lake Elmo. Anyone who’s made Hagberg’s a stop along their travels takes the Hagberg’s story and love of meat with them. Many will return from near and far for flavors they just can’t replicate anywhere else. Their customers love them because they know they can count on Hagberg’s for the best of everything, from the exceptional quality of the meats and foods (many of which are locally sourced) to the local color and genuine pride and service of our staff.
