September 2018. Stillwater, MN. The Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce joined in the celebration of Xcel Energy’s Allen S. King Generating Station’s Fifty-Year Anniversary with a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 6, 2018. The Ribbon Cutting brought together community leaders, city officials, Xcel Energy executives, plant leaders and staff, community supporters from local surrounding areas, and neighboring Stillwater and Hudson Chambers of Commerce to celebrate this milestone Anniversary.

With the merging of former companies into Xcel today, Xcel Energy has been an industry leader for over a century and delivers renewable energy while reducing carbon and other emissions. Through their 50 years in the Allen S. King Generating Station in Bayport, MN, they continue to focus their works toward a sustainable energy future. Xcel provides energy to power millions of homes and businesses across eight western and midwestern states. The generating station provides these services all the while respecting and protecting the natural beauty and environment of the scenic river valley through their environmental awareness programs and natural habitat accommodations. Xcel stands behind its mission for environmental responsibility and protects the creatures that share the habitat surrounding the power station. Continued development through acts to assist in the protection of this wildlife include hosting conservation projects on their grounds that protect a variety of birds around the facility. Peregrine falcons, once very rare sightings, are now in grounds habit and spotted frequently, prompting the nesting-box program and bird cam web feature. These efforts have resulted in an active partnership with the Raptor Resource Project. Xcel Energy’s dedication to conservation awareness has provided the opportunities for consumers to connect through native wildlife in the King Plant’s concerned efforts.

The 50-year celebration gathering hosted a beautiful outdoor event including the opportunity to network with local leaders, make and meet neighborly area connections, there were acknowledgement and concerted speeches by officials, registrant tours of the generating station, and delicious eats from local food trucks on site. We commend Xcel Energy’s Allen S. King Plant on their comradery in our area. Some fun-facts taken from the day; Xcel Energy generates power to provide electricity to 400,000 homes in the St. Croix River Valley and energy to fully-charge 93 million cell phones! They continue to provide their customers with dependable and reliable service that ranks among the best in the industry. It is through customer participation in reducing and conserving gas or electric use that Xcel can provide the utmost quality service and discount and pass this along to their customers throughout the region.
