Somerset, WI. The Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce welcomed local business,
Merganser Customs, to the Chamber and the community with a ribbon cutting celebration on April 14th, 2022. The event took place at 2006 68th Street, Somerset, WI.  Owners Joe and Lonnie Widmer, their son, employees, friends, Greater Stillwater Chamber ambassadors and staff were there to join in the celebration.

What started as a pandemic side hustle for Joe Widmer has blossomed into a niche,  full time business. Merganser Customs restores, retrofits, and uplifts pontoons, trailers, cargo vans, and even school buses to give clients one of a kind RVs, food trucks, and refreshed pontoons. During the pandemic, people were flocking to the great outdoors, lakes and rivers, and parks as family units and Widmer is able to provide a customized option for a variety of family types and sizes.

The boating industry was and still is in high demand.  While boats were/are hard to find, he has the ability to  replace and update flooring on pontoons. There were no pontoons for purchase, but restoring older ones could absolutely be done and got people on the water.  Widmer has added a fabricator to his staff and emphasizes, “there is nothing we can’t do now!”.

The name Merganser Customs exemplifies their journey.  Widmer’s son has a fascination for birds at the Bell Museum, and one day the father/son pair saw three Mergansers outside their home and landed on the name for the business. Outdoors, nature and repurposing vehicles/boats to promote new adventures during a new time is what Merganser Customs is all about.  Merganser Customs is excited to help local and  national clients turn “simple machines into dreams!”
