June 23, 2020, Stillwater, MN. The Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce welcomed new local business, The Lumberjack, at a ribbon cutting celebration on June 18, 2020. The event took place at 123 2nd Street N, Stillwater, MN. The Lumberjack owner, her daughters, staff, Senator Karin Housley, and Chamber Members, Ambassadors and staff were there to join in the celebration. The operation is located both inside of the JX Event Center, and outside in Union Alley.
The Lumberjack Axe Throwing Bar was molded around the fact that Sara Jesperson, the owner, was looking for something different than the same old corner bar. She likes to be engaged and play games when she gets together with her friends. That fact, combined with Sara spending most of her youth in the woods of the iron range, were the factors contributing to the conceptualization of an axe throwing establishment. The Lumberjack opened their doors December 18th, 2019, with games found in every nook and cranny, and a celebration of the legendary Stillwater lumber history via an educational timeline and beautiful old historic photos throughout the space.
The Jespersen family, who are Stillwater residents, opened The Lumberjack so visitors can learn about Stillwater’s rich history and locals can find a home. They’ve aimed their sites on creating a space where people feel like they belong, where everyone is known, and all are welcome! How does the ranger feel about her community? “Being part of the Stillwater Community is like being in the center of a group hug with so many people supporting you and cheering you on. The local business owners have a mentality of “a rising tide floats all boats”. While it is a difficult time to be in business, I don’t feel alone, we’re all working to rise together,” exclaimed Jesperson.
