July 3, 2019. Stillwater, MN. The Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce welcome new Chamber Member Uptown Curl at a ribbon cutting celebration on July 1, 2019. The event took place in their new shop at 120 Main Street North, downtown Stillwater. Uptown Curl owner, staff, friends, Chamber Ambassadors and Chamber staff were there to join in the celebration. The curl specialists opened their Stillwater location in December.

Uptown Curl has been an idea in the making since Kristy was a child trying to manage her mane with little success. Her mother had no experience with textured hair, and to the local salon’s where she grew up, Kristy was an anomaly. Wison’s mission became helping other women with curls; care for, accept, and even love the natural state of their hair. Kristy opened up her first curl salon five years ago on Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis, and expanded into Stillwater in December of 2018.

Kristy and Jake, her husband, reside in Stillwater with their two boys, Henry and Jacob. The family moved into Stillwater a year ago, and happened to be walking Main Street when they passed a cute storefront, former home of Aprille’s Showers Tea Room, with an umbrella sign still jutting out high over the sidewalk. “Once I got a look inside, I knew I wanted to open another salon in this location. The exposed brick wall, wood floors, and grand staircase were perfect,” said Kristy. The salon also sells umbrellas, much alike the sign that has become a downtown landmark. The Zimmerman’s are looking forward to growing their business, along with their family in the Stillwater community.
